HARARE- SEPTEMBER 2026- Medirite Healthcare was represented at this year’s 26th International AIDS Conference in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil by its managing director Mr. Mugove Chideme who took the opportunity to meet exhibiting companies in the HIV testing, treatment and management supply chain.

The biennial conference was held under the theme “Rethink. Rebuild. Rise.”

Thousands of scientists, programmers, activists and people living with HIV  gathered at the showcase which this year focused heavily on navigating global HIV funding cuts, with discussions focused on the impact of recent international financial shifts and clinic closures on community-based treatment and prevention as well as scaling up long-acting prevention tools like lenacapavir, and confronting structural inequalities.

Researchers shared trial updates highlighting superior efficacy for twice-yearly lenacapavir injections and emerging weekly preventative pill while plenaries looked into how systemic racism and structural barriers are preventing marginalized groups from accessing modern healthcare infrastructure with a view to finding solutions.

Roughly 7, 500 participants attended the conference in person or in line.

In person attendees from Zimbabwe included the  Minister of Health and Child Care, Dr. Douglas Mombeshora, senior officials from the Ministry of Health, National AIDS Council and other civic organizations.  

Mr. Chideme described  the conference as a strategic meeting which always leads to new strides and developments in the management of HIV.
